Getting a puppy

How do I get a puppy from Fluffy Corgis of Missouri?
Request the Puppy Questionnaire by emailing jan@pembrokesofwalnutcreek.com or calling or texting Janice at (660) 234-5656. Complete and return it to be considered. Janice will follow up about availability, pricing and next steps.
What is the Puppy Questionnaire?
It is a short form that tells Janice about you, your home and what you want in a corgi. She uses it to match each puppy with the right family. Returning it also puts you in line for a future litter.
Do you have puppies available right now?
Availability changes with each litter. Our Puppies page lists the pups currently looking for homes, and the Coming Soon section shows planned litters. Call or text Janice for the latest.
How does the waitlist work?
After your questionnaire is approved, a $300 deposit places you on the waitlist for an upcoming litter. Pups are chosen at three to four weeks old, so families on the list are matched as the litter grows. Janice keeps you updated by call, text or email.
How long is the wait for a puppy?
Dams carry puppies an average of 63 days from mating, and pups go home at nine to ten weeks. That is roughly four months from conception to a new family. Wait time then depends on where you are on the list.
Can I choose the puppy I want?
Pups are chosen at three to four weeks old, once their personalities begin to show. Janice helps match temperament to your household. Families who reserve earlier generally have more choice.
Can I pick a male or a female?
You can share a preference on the questionnaire, and Janice will do her best to honor it. Availability depends on what each litter produces. Temperament match matters as much as sex.
Which colors do you breed?
We breed tri-color, sable, and red and white AKC Pembroke Welsh Corgis, all full fluffy. Color availability varies by litter. Tell Janice your preferences and she will let you know what is expected.
Can I visit your home and meet the puppies?
No. The puppies are raised in our home and we do not allow visitors, to protect their health and our family. Pick-up is by meeting half-way, at Kansas City International Airport, or with a flight nanny.
Can I choose a puppy from photos or videos?
YES! Photos, videos and live videos are available for you to select your puppy, with input from Janice and your personal preference from your Puppy Questionnaire.
Do you sell puppies to first-time corgi owners?
Yes. Many of our families are first-time corgi owners. Janice answers questions throughout the process and offers mentoring and support after your puppy comes home.
Do you sell puppies to pet stores or brokers?
No. Our puppies go directly to families after a questionnaire and contract. Janice wants to know exactly where each pup lives.

Pricing and deposits

How much does a puppy cost?
Pet-home puppies with AKC Limited Registration are $2,250, effective January 1, 2026. Pricing and process are subject to change, so confirm with Janice when you apply.
What does the $2,250 price include?
Each puppy goes home with AKC Limited Registration, an AKC Reunite microchip, a full health record and vaccination schedule, a starter bag, and AKC perks. See our Pricing page for the full list of what comes home with your pup.
What is the deposit?
A $300 deposit reserves your puppy or your spot on the waitlist. The deposit comes off the purchase price.
How do I pay the deposit?
We accept Venmo, Zelle, personal check or USPS money order. Janice will give you the details once your questionnaire is approved.
When is the balance due?
The balance is due at pickup/delivery and cash is preferred, so plan to bring it with you. Janice will accept Venmo, Zelle and United States Postal Service Money Order when cash is not an option, for example when using a flight nanny.
Is the deposit refundable?
The waitlist deposit as well as the reservation deposit is traditionally considered non-refundable. Ask Janice, as she will work with you on extenuating circumstances regarding refund of the deposit(s).
What is the difference between Limited and Full registration?
Limited registration means a puppy is a pet and cannot be bred or have its offspring registered with the AKC. Full registration allows registered offspring and is only offered to approved breeding programs. Most families receive Limited registration.
How much do puppies with breeding rights cost?
Puppies sold with full AKC breeding rights range from $4,000 to $4,500, depending on the dam and sire. They are only offered to breeding programs that meet Janice's standards.
Why does a puppy from a health-testing breeder cost more?
Genetic testing, OFA exams, vet care, vaccinations, microchips and raising puppies in the home all cost money. Those costs are built into the price. You also receive a two-year health guarantee.
Do you offer payment plans?
The deposit holds your puppy and the balance is due at pick-up or delivery. If you have special circumstances, ask Janice directly.
Are there extra fees for delivery?
A small travel fee applies for half-way meetings depending on distance, and airport meet-ups or flight-nanny hand-offs carry a $100 fee.
Do prices change?
Yes. Pricing and process are subject to change. Your deposit locks in your place on the waitlist, so ask Janice about the price that applies to you.

Health and testing

What genetic tests do your breeding dogs have?
All breeding adults have a genetic panel conducted by AKC DNA Health Testing or Gen Sol Diagnostics before mating, including DM (degenerative myelopathy), vWD1 (von Willebrand's disease type 1) and EIC (exercise-induced collapse). Results are listed on each dog's profile.
What is DM in corgis?
Degenerative myelopathy is an inherited condition affecting the spinal cord that can cause progressive hind-limb weakness later in life. A DNA test shows whether a dog is clear, a carrier, or at risk. We test every breeding dog.
Can a DM carrier be bred?
Yes, a carrier can be bred responsibly when paired with a DM-clear mate, which prevents at-risk puppies. Our pairings are chosen with test results in mind. Our Muffin, for example, is DM at risk and will only be bred to DM-clear sires.
What is vWD1?
Von Willebrand's disease type 1 is an inherited bleeding disorder. Every breeding adult is tested, and our current adults are clear.
What is EIC?
Exercise-induced collapse is an inherited condition that can cause weakness or collapse after intense exercise. We test for it, and our adults are clear.
What are OFA certificates?
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals evaluates hips, elbows and eyes. We keep earning OFA certificates on elbows, hips and eyes, which together lead to a CHIC number for each adult.
What is a CHIC number?
CHIC stands for Canine Health Information Center. A dog earns a CHIC number after completing the health tests recommended for its breed and making the results public.
What is the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program?
It is an AKC recognition for breeders who commit to Health, Education, Accountability, Responsibility and Tradition. Janice is officially recognized in the program.
Is there a health guarantee?
Yes. Every puppy has a two-year health guarantee covering genetic issues and conditions. Hip dysplasia and IVDD are excluded. Full terms are in the Puppy Purchase Contract.
What vaccinations do puppies receive?
Puppies are vaccinated at six and nine weeks of age and dewormed before leaving. A vet exam a few days before pick-up confirms they are healthy, and you receive the complete vaccination schedule.
Are puppies microchipped?
Yes. Each puppy has an AKC Reunite microchip, with lifetime pet recovery services.
Do puppies see a vet before going home?
Yes. Each pup is vet-examined before leaving and receives a Small Animal Health Certificate. You also get a full health record to take to your own vet.
Is the breeder registered with the state?
Yes. We are registered annually with the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Animal Care Program as a Hobby/Show Breeder. Janice also takes continuing education credits every year.
Do you breed from dogs with health problems?
No. Dams must be at least two years old and in top condition, and sires may mate at 18 months. Every breeding adult is health tested before it is used.

How puppies are raised

Where are the puppies raised?
Puppies are raised in our family home on our farm near Elmer, Missouri. We have a dedicated whelping room and two puppy nurseries in our finished basement.
How often are puppies handled?
Puppies are handled several times a day from birth. This builds a special bond and helps them grow up comfortable with people.
What is Puppy Culture?
Puppy Culture is an early-development program. Our puppies get early neurological stimulation, name recognition, crate training, and noise, touch and grooming desensitization.
Are puppies socialized with other animals?
Yes. Puppies meet adult dogs and cats as part of their socialization, so they go home confident around other pets.
What do the puppies sleep on?
Our whelping box uses faux lamb's wool, which gives puppies traction and is easy on their hips and joints.
When do puppies open their eyes and start walking?
Corgi puppies are born with eyes and ears closed and open them over the first couple of weeks. They then begin exploring and playing as they grow. Janice shares photos as each stage arrives.
At what age do puppies go home?
Puppies go home at nine to ten weeks, depending on maturity. They have had their second round of vaccines and a vet exam by then.
Why do you keep puppies until nine or ten weeks?
The extra weeks with mom and littermates give puppies time to learn social skills. It also lets us finish vaccines and early training steps.
What food are the puppies eating?
Your puppy comes with starter food so the transition is smooth. Keep your puppy on the food it is used to for the first days, then change gradually if you wish.
Are the puppies crate trained?
Crate training begins as part of the early program. Your puppy will already be familiar with a crate and can continue with you at home.
Are the puppies house trained?
They are too young to be fully house trained at nine to ten weeks, but they start learning routines. Plan on consistent potty breaks and praise when you get home.
Do puppies come with toys and a blanket?
Yes. Each puppy goes home with a blanket carrying mom's scent and a toy carrying littermates' scent to ease the first nights.
Do you keep in touch after the puppy goes home?
Yes. Janice offers mentoring and support after you take your puppy home and is always a call or text away.

Delivery and pick-up

What are my options for getting my puppy?
You can meet half-way within about a four-hour radius, meet Janice at Kansas City International Airport, or use a USDA flight nanny.
Where do I pick up my puppy?
We do not host visitors at our home. Meet half-way within about four hours, at Kansas City International Airport, or use a flight nanny. Call or text Janice to arrange it.
What is a half-way meet?
Janice meets you somewhere within about a four-hour radius in the tri-state area. A small travel fee applies depending on distance.
Do you meet at the airport?
Yes. Fly into Kansas City International Airport and Janice will meet you with your puppy and a to-go bag. The fee is $100, which covers the five-hour round trip.
How do I fly my puppy home?
Many families fly into Kansas City International, pick up the puppy in person, and bring the puppy in the cabin on the flight home. Check your airline's rules for traveling with a puppy before you book.
What is a puppy nanny?
A puppy nanny is a USDA-licensed flight nanny who travels with your puppy to your home. You can use a nanny we refer or one you choose, and you work with the nanny directly.
How much does the nanny option cost?
We charge $100 to cover Janice's trip to the airport. You pay the nanny separately, since you work with them directly.
How far is Kansas City airport from the farm?
The round trip to Kansas City International Airport is about five hours. That is the reason for the $100 airport fee.
Can you deliver to my home?
Delivery depends on distance and timing. Ask Janice about options for your area, including half-way meetings and nannies.
What do I bring on pick-up day?
Bring the balance in cash, a carrier or crate, and a towel in case of motion sickness. Your puppy will come with a to-go bag.
What should I do on the drive home?
Keep the puppy in a secure carrier or on a lap with a seat belt, make the ride calm, and plan a short potty stop. Most pups sleep after a busy morning.
Are there states you will not deliver to?
Ask Janice about your location. The meet-up options and nanny service let us reach families well beyond Missouri.

The breed and temperament

What is a full fluffy Pembroke Welsh Corgi?
A fluffy corgi carries a recessive long-coat gene, giving a longer, feathered coat with soft fur on the ears, chest, legs and tail. The dog is still an AKC Pembroke Welsh Corgi with the same build and temperament.
Are fluffy corgis recognized by the AKC?
Fluffies can be registered with the AKC as Pembroke Welsh Corgis. They are not eligible for the conformation ring in AKC, but they take part in the pet-home and performance world.
How big do Pembroke Welsh Corgis get?
Females are 26 to 28 lbs full grown and males 28 to 32 lbs. They are sturdy dogs with short legs and an athletic body.
How long do corgis live?
Pembroke Welsh Corgis generally live around 12 to 14 years with good care. Diet, exercise and weight control play a big part.
Are corgis good with children?
Yes, when raised and socialized well. They are herders and may try to herd small children by nipping at heels, so early training helps.
Are corgis good with cats and other dogs?
Our puppies are socialized with adult dogs and cats, so they go home confident. Introduce new pets gradually.
Are corgis good for apartment living?
Many corgis do fine in apartments if they get daily exercise and mental stimulation. They can be vocal, so teach quiet manners early.
Do corgis bark a lot?
Corgis are alert herders and often bark to tell you things. Training and exercise help keep it manageable.
How much exercise does a corgi need?
Plan on daily walks and play. They are smart and active herders that thrive on activity and togetherness.
Are corgis easy to train?
They are intelligent and eager to please, which makes training enjoyable. Positive reinforcement works best.
Are corgis good for first-time owners?
Yes, with consistency. They are smart and affectionate but also strong-willed and energetic. Our questionnaire helps match you with the right pup.
Can corgis be left alone?
Corgis love company and may get bored or anxious if left too long. Crate training, exercise and puzzle toys help.
Do corgis herd people?
Yes, it is a breed trait. They may circle or nip at heels. Redirect with toys and training.
What is the difference between a Pembroke and a Cardigan corgi?
Pembrokes are typically smaller, have pointed upright ears and a short or docked tail. Cardigans are larger with rounded ears and a long tail. We raise Pembrokes only.

Grooming and coat

Do fluffy corgis shed more than regular corgis?
All corgis shed, and their double coat blows twice a year. Fluffies have longer fur so loose hair is more visible. Regular brushing keeps it under control.
How often should I brush a fluffy corgi?
A few times per week is a good routine, and daily during heavy shedding. Use a slicker brush and a comb for feathering.
Can I shave my corgi in summer?
No. The double coat helps regulate temperature and shaving can damage it. Brush out the undercoat instead.
Do fluffy corgis need professional grooming?
Not usually. Most owners keep up with brushing and baths at home, though a groomer can help with nails and trimming.
How often should I bathe my corgi?
Every few weeks to a couple of months, or when dirty. Over-bathing can dry out the skin.
How do I care for the fluffy feathering?
Comb the feathering on the ears, chest, legs and tail to prevent mats. Check behind the ears and under the legs weekly.
Do fluffy corgis get tangled?
The longer coat can tangle in places, mostly behind the ears and in the britches. Regular combing prevents it.
When do fluffy puppies grow their coat?
Fluffy puppies look soft and plush, and the feathering develops over the first year. Grooming habits started early make it easy.
How do I trim a corgi's nails?
Trim nails every few weeks. Start handling feet early; our puppies are used to touch and grooming desensitization.
Do fluffy corgis have more health problems?
The long-coat gene itself is not linked to additional health problems in our experience. Genetic testing and OFA certificates matter for any corgi.

Training and daily life

When should I start training my puppy?
Start the day you bring your puppy home. Short, positive sessions with treats and praise are best.
How do I house train a corgi puppy?
Take your puppy out after waking, eating and playing, and reward successes. Use a crate for overnight and when you cannot supervise.
How long can a puppy stay in a crate?
Young puppies can only hold it for a short time, roughly one hour per month of age plus a little. Provide frequent breaks.
What should I feed my corgi puppy?
Feed a quality puppy food in measured portions. Your pup comes with starter food so you can switch gradually if you change brands.
How do I keep my corgi from getting overweight?
Measure meals, limit treats and keep up daily exercise. Corgis love food and weight stresses their backs and joints.
Should my corgi go up and down stairs?
Limit repeated stair use and jumping off furniture, especially for puppies, to protect long backs and joints. Use ramps where you can.
What supplies do I need for a new puppy?
A crate, bed, food and water bowls, collar or harness, leash, toys, grooming tools and puppy-safe chews. Your puppy's starter bag covers many basics.
When should I take my puppy to the vet?
Schedule a vet visit within the first few days of coming home. Your puppy comes with a complimentary first vet visit through the AKC Veterinary Network and a full health record.
How do I socialize my puppy?
Introduce new people, places, sounds and surfaces safely and positively. Wait until vaccinations are complete before busy dog areas.
Does my puppy come with training help?
Yes. Every puppy comes with the AKC GoodDog! Helpline, which offers live trainer support for life.
