How Does Reserving a Corgi Puppy Work?

By Janice Sampson · Updated October 21, 2026 · 4 min read

People often ask what happens between saying I want a puppy and holding one. Here is our process at Fluffy Corgis of Missouri, step by step, with the details that surprise first-time buyers.

Step 1: Request the Puppy Questionnaire

Email jan@pembrokesofwalnutcreek.com or call or text me at (660) 234-5656. I will send the questionnaire. It asks about you, your household and what you want in a corgi. Please be honest. There are no wrong answers, only better matches.

Once I have your questionnaire, I follow up by phone or text to talk through timing, color and temperament.

Step 2: Reserve with a $300 deposit

A $300 deposit holds your place on the waitlist or reserves a specific puppy. It comes off the price. We accept Venmo, Zelle, personal check or USPS money order. Pet-home puppies are $2,250 with AKC Limited Registration.

Pricing and process are subject to change, and the Puppy Purchase Contract spells out the terms. Please read it carefully and ask me about anything unclear.

Step 3: Watch your litter grow

I keep families updated as the litter grows. Pups are matched at three to four weeks old, once their personalities begin to show. I help match each puppy to the family, based on your questionnaire and what I see every day.

This is the fun part, as your puppy starts to play and learn about the world.

Step 4: Welcome home at nine to ten weeks

Puppies go home at nine to ten weeks. Before that, they receive vaccinations at six and nine weeks, are dewormed, and get a veterinary exam. You receive a full health record, the Small Animal Health Certificate, the AKC registration paperwork and a starter bag.

The balance is due in cash at pick-up or delivery.

How long does the whole thing take?

Dams carry puppies an average of 63 days from mating, and pups go home at nine to ten weeks. That is roughly four months from conception to a new family. If you reserve a puppy from a litter that is already born, the wait is shorter.

Check the Puppies page to see the current litter and planned litters.

What questions should you ask before you reserve?

Before you pay a deposit, ask about price, what is included, the health guarantee, how and when the balance is due, and what the contract says about changes. Ask when the litter is expected and when your puppy could go home.

I would much rather answer ten questions now than have a surprise later, so ask away.

How do you pick the right litter?

Think about timing, color and temperament. Planned litters are listed on the Puppies page with their status, from confirmed to possible. If your timing is flexible, joining the waitlist for a planned litter gives you the most choice.

If you need a puppy sooner, ask about the current litter and any pups still available.

What should you do while you wait?

Use the wait to prepare. Read our new puppy checklist, buy a crate and basics, plan your first vet visit and think about delivery. If you are traveling, decide whether you will meet half-way, meet at Kansas City International Airport or use a flight nanny.

My updates will keep you close to your puppy as it grows.

How do updates work while you wait?

Waitlist families receive updates as the litter grows, and I answer questions by call, text or email. As the puppies' personalities show, I describe each one so you can picture your pup in your home.

Many families tell me this stage is their favorite, because they feel connected long before pick-up day.

What happens on the final weeks before going home?

In the last weeks, puppies receive their second round of booster vaccinations and a vet exam, and I confirm your pick-up or delivery plan. You will know the day, the place and what to bring.

Then you take your new family member home with all the paperwork, a starter bag and a lifetime of support.

What if you want a specific color or sex?

Tell me early, ideally on your questionnaire. Some litters have more of one color or one sex, so flexibility helps. I will be honest about what to expect and which litter might suit you best.

If your heart is set on a particular look, I will say so, and we can plan around future litters rather than rushing.

Can you visit before you reserve?

No. Our puppies are raised in our home and we do not allow visitors, to protect the puppies and our family. Photos, videos and live videos are available, and you choose your puppy with input from me and your preferences on the Puppy Questionnaire. I am always glad to talk by phone.

What if my plans change?

Life happens. Talk to me as early as you can. The waitlist and reservation deposits are traditionally considered non-refundable, but I will work with you on extenuating circumstances. I would much rather help you find a solution than leave you guessing. When you are ready, request the Puppy Questionnaire or call (660) 234-5656.
